Shaft of Wit Comedy nights are organised and promoted by Kai Barron. In 2003, Kai tried stand-up for the first time and as a new act, he was a semi finalist in Channel 4 So You Think You're Funny competitio and a Finalist in Chortle's Student Competition. He has headlined and compered for Mirth Control in the U.K. Internationally, he has performed at The Tokyo Comedy Store & for Stand Up Tokyo in Japan.
in 2004 Shaft of Wit Comedy opened it's first club 'What The Dickens!" at The Dickens Bar in a popular seafront hotel in Torquay. Since then we have delivered many successful comedy nights in the South West of England. As were hosted at The Beach Bar, Tabernacle Junction and The Northover Manor Hotel as well as some much larger private events for audiences of approximately 400 Most notably at RNAF Yeovilton Base and Millfield School in Somerset.
Over fifteen years Shaft of Wit have entertained thousands of comedy fans and hosted some of the U.K.'s most experienced and funniest circuit headliners. Many acts who were supported by Shaft of Wit early in their careers have gone on to become hugely successful international artists.

Ross McGraneRoss is quickly climbing the comedy ranks, Having beaten the infamous Gong at the Comedy Store on his first attempt and coming 2nd in the Comedy Cafe’s new act night Ross has already found himself supporting industry heavyweights such as Jo Brand, Sean Walsh, Bob Mills and Patrick Monohan and recently has been booked as official tour support for Russell Kane playing in front of audiences as big 1600.
He’s been lucky enough to perform several times at some of the country’s most prestigious venue
Wouter MeijsDutch comedian Wouter Meijs arrived in the UK in 2005 after a successful career in the Netherlands and has been entertaining audiences with his skewed observations ever since.
He has achieved some success in some of the most prestigious comedy competitions most notably winning the coveted Dirty Dozen Trophy in 2012.
Patrick MonahanAudience favourite Patrick Monahan blends a high energy comedy style with hilarious and engaging topical and observational material. Known for working a room, Patrick is adored by his audiences with whom he makes an effortless connection!
From February 2015 Patrick will be on tour with his brand new, energetically witty and charming family show! Expect plenty of playful audience interaction from this loveable Irish/Iranian Teessider!
Shaft of Wit welcomes requests for gigs from comedians of all levels and experience. If you are an experienced act that can confidently open or close a gig we want to hear from you.
Support acts should be able to open or close a gig confidently and be capable of entertaining for at least 25 minutes.
Open spots with some prior experience are welcome and should have a solid 3 - 5 minutes to perform.
